Precisly, one need some own experience to empathise with others. I always look to find a correlating experience to understand what someone else is going through. I will never feel the same as them, but an aproximation already helps me to be able to relate to them and adjust how I treat them to fit their needs at least a bit better. Not everyone was terribly betrayed by their partner, but everyone has encountered some typ of betrayl or at least a moment, where they felt betrayed. Even if it is just a kindergarden mamory of the former best friend giveing away your secret, it is a moment where you are hurt, have to reevaluate what you thought to be a truth, a lost of trust. Maybe anger, maybe helplessness . . .remembering what that felt like and amplefying it gives one an rough idea, how someone experiencing another typ of betrayle and makes one concious about how shitty it is and how one does not want to evoke the same in someone else

I live with trauma myself and honestly I was happier before it. It hasn’t improved my life at all and has actually taken many things away from me so I don’t agree that trauma improves a person, there’s a reason people go to therapy to help cope with it

Now, what if the now dead burglar would go on to reform, and become a doctor who saves lives or better yet a scientific medical researcher who discovers the cure for cancer? To be fair, I'm grateful for my disabled parking placard. It may hurt to sit, stand, walk, and lie down but when I hurt for bad I debate if it's worth getting out of the car I can usually get my errand done thanks to handicap parking. At least I get something out of it. 🤷‍♀️
